Fantastic beasts and where to find them
The Romanesque Capitals of St Kyneburgha’s Church, Castor, and theLocal Landscape

Situated at the heart of an early 12th-century church a beautiful set of Romanesque capitals depicts an array of creatures, encompassing both the natural and supernatural worlds. This talk addresses the inspiration behind elements of the scheme, to assess the myriad ways in which it might be interpreted, and to place it firmly within its landscape context.

Speaker:
Dr Susan Kilby
Susan is a Medieval historian interested in landscape. She is Research Associate at the Institute for Name-Studies at the University of Nottingham, and a Visiting Fellow at the Centre for Regional and Local History at the University of Leicester.
