SUMMARY:EXCAVATION - Ramsey Abbey
DESCRIPTION:Those who attended the talk by Roger Mould on 4th June will know that the Ramsey Abbey Community Project has been successful in securing Heritage Lottery funding following extensive research as they continue to search for the elusive remains of Ramsey Abbey. \nThey are now ready to excavate in August – 13th to 24th. As the project has been awarded lottery funding a professional company will head up the excavation. They will have three big trenches open aimed at features shown on the resisitivity survey. \nThey would welcome volunteers. \nIf you are interested please contact enquiries@peterborougharchaeology.org \nThe Great Benedictine Abbey of Ramsey was the first of the great religious houses in Eastern Fenland to be founded and in its time one of the most important\, influential and wealthiest Abbey in the Fens. In its heyday it was home to at least 80 Monks\, and behind its walls a renowned school was founded in about 985. For over 500 years the Abbey flourished\, but in 1539 the Abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII. \nPlease Note this is a Ramsey Abbey Community Project

SUMMARY:EXCAVATION: Nassington Roman Barn Year 3
DESCRIPTION:MidNAG is resuming excavations at Nassington for a third year. \nThere is a large Roman barn which we are trying to understand better. It is hoped that the 2018 dig will start to tell us more about the occupation and uses of the barn and nearby structures. \nThose interested will need to contact (and be members of) the Middle Nene Archaeology Group. \nFind out how it’s going
