SUMMARY:TRAINING: Metal Detecting
DESCRIPTION:This free training session is for all FRAG members interested in metal detecting – whether or not you have previous experience. \nObjectives \nGroup 1: Beginners: \nTo provide best practice knowledge from experienced metal-detectorists.\nIf you have a metal detector please bring it. \nGroup 2: Regular metal-detectorist:\nThere is an opportunity to practice skills searching part of a field that has already produced some interesting finds. \nVenue:\nAshton – between Peterborough and Stamford \nGroup Times\nGroup 1: There will be two cohorts. One from 10am – 11.30am and then from Noon – 1.30pm. Allow 30 minutes to drive to the venue and prepare for the session. Those with their own metal detectors will then be able to stay and use their now found skills in detecting with others in the afternoon. Please remember to book your slot on the booking form. \nGroup 2: There will be up to 4 detectorists in each time slot and they will be allocated an area to detect. There are two time slots (10am – Noon and 1pm – 3pm). Depending on the numbers in this cohort\, members may be able to stay for the whole time. \nSite Organisation: \nAs part of the day all those attending will be expected to assist with the setting up of the areas to be metal detected. \nDirections:\nLocation details will be given to those attending by 30th October. We will endeavour to reduce the number of cars that we take. So once we know who is coming we will arrange to go in as few cars as possible. If you are willing to take others in your car please let me know at the time of booking your place. Many thanks \nWhat to wear:\nWarm comfortable layers and full waterproofs\, hat\, scarf\, gloves and wellingtons or walking boot. If the weather gets too wet we will end the session as the equipment could be damaged. You are welcome to bring your own metal detector if you have one. \nPaperwork:\nAll those attending will be required to complete and sign a declaration form once their place has been confirmed on the training day. \nThis training is only open to FRAG members and is on a first come basis. \nDOWNLOAD BOOKING FORM

SUMMARY:Nassington 2017 - What Did We Find?
DESCRIPTION:Year One at Nassington revealed a large stone Roman barn and ancillary features including a corn dryer. \nThere were many unanswered questions so FRAG members joined forces with MidNAG to excavate again this August. \nDirector of Excavations\, Derek Roberts\, joins us to provide first feedback on what we have learned. The talk will consist of new finds and features from the season 2 excavations and thoughts for the future with a brief look at the recently conducted 5 hectare magnetometer survey. \nSpeaker – Derek Roberts\nDerek is co-founder of the contract archaeological unit Pre-Develop Archaeology. After reading Archaeological science at Sheffield University he excavated extensively around Britain with different contract units and had a very brief spell in France. He honed his skills working on urban archaeological sites in Carlisle\, London and Greater London and Colchester and now finds himself back where he started excavating in the Nene Valley. \nFREE for FRAG members \nNassington Roman Barn – Dig Diary
